Why we raise Aberdeen Angus!

At Oak valley Angus our registered cattle herd ensures you are purchasing true Angus beef and not an old used roping Steer or dairy cow. Your average size Angus has a large frame (up to 1000 pounds dressed) with more mass in the chuck and round primal cuts, longer legs, and a digestive system that has been adapted for a grain-finishing diet. Modern Angus exhibits many traits of domestic breeds that have been crossed into the bloodline to improve feedlot efficiencies and increase red meat yield.

One advantage of the American Aberdeen cattle is that the smaller size not only produces great grass fattened beef, but also allows a customer to purchase by the half or whole without getting so much beef they can’t store it. Generally, one of our purebred Aberdeen carcasses will weigh between 400 and 500 lbs. and our Aberdeen Brangus cross carcass will weigh between 500 and 600 lbs. This means one of our grass-fed grain finished halves will be 200 to 300 lbs. hanging weight and generally yield 100- 200 lbs. of cut meat.

We prefer to sell Beef in halves or wholes, but we generally have cut Beef available year round. The size of the American Aberdeen cattle allows you to purchase all cuts of beef in a package that can easily be stored and utilized by one family with average freezer space.

American Aberdeen beef is superbly tender and the fat that runs through the meat is not only incredibly flavorsome but also helps in keeping the cut juicy while cooking.

Formally called a “Lowline”-Aberdeen Angus meat is known for its marbling and tenderness with a larger ribeye percentage, which makes it better than prime beef. Raised for 18 to 24 months on premium pastures in the Santa Rita mountains, we finish all our beef with grain. Every animal we raise here at Oak Valley Angus has a name and is cared for with the upmost respect.

On our grassy lands at Oak Valley Angus Farm, we maintain a reputation for premium aged and grass fed American Aberdeen Angus Beef. In the high desert hills of Sonoita, Arizona, we breed and pasture raise all of our animals. Our hearts have been poured into these pastures, and we are excited to be providing for our community.

What you won't find at Oak Valley Angus:

  • Corriente steers: Or laments terms used roping steers that have led a stressful and undocumented life.

  • “desert” ranged beef- watch for claims of “pasture” raised beef, some desert beef survives on mesquite beans and leaves. Then off to the butcher they go!

  • Unfinished beef, we refuse to sell any beef that is not ready-Period. Readiness is not the farmers choice, but the animals. First Generation farms (and covid pop up farms) struggle with this.

  • Meat form the mass beef industry (the meat you find at the grocery store), depleted of essential nutrients for human health. Sourced from cows fed diets not meant for them and poorly treated in tight living spaces.

  • Non registered cattle herd. If you want true Angus beef and not livestock auction and dairy animals, verify the registration. Question where your meat came from and what your meat is!
